Mission Statement

To empower PNG women and their families through the provision of affordable and accessible financial services offeredin a sustainable manner.

Mission of Mama Bank is entrenched in empowering PNG women and theirfamilies through the provision of simple and accessible financial services offeredsustainably. Mama Bank recognized that PNG’s cultural context is such thatwomen are placed bottom of the societal pyramid and seen as insubordinate tomen even though they play a significant role in the families. Therefore, MamaBank entails breaking this barrier and empowering the ordinary village-basedwomen and youths in PNG through economic empowerment programs, whereemphasis is placed on easy access to simple and affordable financial services,and on savings culture and access to credit facilities by way of having their bankaccounts with affordable and adequate access to funds to enable them to playa more active role in the economic development and contribution of their families,societies, LLGs, districts, province and country as a whole.

Mama Bank is mindful of the financial needs and preferences of its customers while joyfully banking with women and offering products and services specially tailored to meet their needs.

Institutional sustainability is important to continue and expand the service. Mama Bank pays special attention to remaining operationally viable while offering inclusive financial services. Mama Bank ensures extraordinary stewardship while managing the resources. Mama Bank will be transparent and accountable to customers, shareholders, partners, collaborators, regulators, and the government. Mama Bank will implement proper governance, risk management, and controls.

Access to financial services is a major challenge for the existing and potential customers of Mama Bank. Special attention will be taken to ensure access to a whole range of financial services. Mama Bank will invest and try innovative service delivery models supported by technology to make banking accessible anywhere anytime.

While thriving for operational sustainability, Mama Bank is committed to offering products and services in an affordable way to its customer segment. This will be achieved by efficiently managing the resources.

Goal

The goal of Mama Bank is to break the cultural barrier inhibiting women and establish itself as a premier and mostafter financial service provider that delivers quality income enhancement opportunities to all sections of women ofPapua New Guinea.

Women play a major role in the social and economic welfare of families and households. They invest more in theirfamilies than men in areas such as education, health, and nutrition, creating a secure foundation for the future of theirfamilies and communities. Thus, Mama Bank believes that empowering women economically,especially through their involvement in money-generating businesses, will enhanceand create economic opportunities that will benefit everyone. However, due to culturalbarriers in PNG where women are treated as second-class citizens in terms of land ownershipor financial control, the provision of appropriate and affordable financial services forwomen is a neglected area in Papua New Guinea. Mama Bank has identified these weaknessesas its major area of focus.

Mama Bank considers women entrepreneurs as the gateway to household stability. Basedon this fundamental premise, it has developed and designed its financial services; savingsmobilization products, lending products, financial literacy, and skills development trainingservices with an explicit focus on women. Further product development and integrationswill evolve as products are fine-tuned to suit PNG women entrepreneurs’ business requirements.
