Women’s Micro Bank

Business Skill Training

Business Development Skills (BDS) and Financial Literacy Training

Women’s Micro Bank (Mama Bank) provides structured Business Development Skills (BDS) and Financial Literacy Training across Papua New Guinea. Operating through regional branches and community frameworks, this training equips MSME, SME, and informal sector entrepreneurs—both men and women—with the administrative skills needed to scale their businesses.

Core Business Training Modules

Business Development Skills (BDS):

Delivers training on basic operations, micro-enterprise management principles, and product differentiation.

Financial Literacy

Targets baseline knowledge in smart savings habits, day-to-day budgeting, and business cash flow planning.

Credit and Loan Management

Instructs prospective borrowers on how to responsibly handle and repay micro credit and SME loans.

Digital Commerce Support

Explains how to maximize mobile banking platforms and point-of-sale systems to safely track sales without cash risks.

Key Specialized Programs

The MERI Project

Partnering directly with UNCDF and UN Women, the Markets, Economic Recovery, and Inclusion (MERI) initiative targets women marketplace vendors. In areas like the Lae Main Market, Mama Bank run dedicated 2-day certifications transforming informal vendor groups into formalized business teams.

Self-Reliance Group (SRG) Model

A tailored group-mentorship curriculum focused on building collaborative liabilities. The bank trains localized clusters to pool savings, creating group collateral that helps individual members overcome traditional lack of asset documentation when seeking credit.

National DDA Collaborations

Working under MOUs alongside District Development Authorities (such as Abau and Nakanai DDA) and government departments, the bank deploys regional field trainers. These programs often culminate in combined graduation ceremonies where certified trainees instantly gain account access and loan disbursements.

Registration Requirements

In-Person Booking

Aspiring participants can secure a limited slot by visiting major urban branches including the Port Moresby Branch (Waigani Drive) or regional hubs in Lae and Madang.

Standard community classes generally carry a small material registration fee (typically around K80, subject to change based on project funding) and include a certified completion voucher upon graduation.

Same-Day Onboarding

Immediate bank account registration is integrated directly into the training field sessions for unbanked attendees.
